W@W Auction 2011

November is the time of the year when Weddings at Work holds its annual Auction and Christmas Party. I have always dreamt of going to the W@W Christmas Party, however we won't be in the Philippines yet on that date, so we have to skip that one. But the Auction is something I won't miss. And this time we're qualified (last year we were still planning for a 2013 wedding thus were not allowed to join to give way to 2011 & 2012 couples).

When Ms Benz, the page moderator, first posted about the auction items, I have set my mind that I will only bid for a HMUA and the customized wedding cord, because we have already booked majority of our suppliers. The 1st-and-exclusive auction had all of the items up for bidding - photographers, videographers, designers, bands, event stylists, coordinators, HMUAs, florists, wedding accessories and many others - everything you need in a wedding except for venues and caterers. As per FAQs posted, it is wisest to wait until the last few minutes of the auction prior to bidding just so not to make the price go higher and higher. And that is what I did. I waited until the last day before I even opened the auction page. The 2 items that I was eyeing already had bids up to around 90% of their original price. I was only willing to pay half of the prices. In short, I did not gain anything on that round of auction.

The 2nd auction, open to everyone in the W@W community, happened a few days after the 1st one ended. This time, I wasn't really planning on getting anything, but when I saw 2 reputable photobooths were up for grabs, I placed a bid on them, still only wiling to pay half of their price. I did not get either of them - I got outbidded, one by P500, the other by P750.

And then I noticed there were some photo sessions up for grabs as well. This was at 5PM EST. I placed my bids for 2 of them, then I went home from work. All the while thinking and wishing hopefully we'd get the items.

When I got home, as usual, my internet connection was way too slow that it took me 15 minutes before I was able to open the auction page. There was only seconds left in one of the items I want and I had to refresh the page every two seconds to make sure no one else would bid for it, or if they would then I could place an amount higher than what they were willing to pay. No one did.

The second item still had 10 minutes left in the clock before the auction ended, and same thing with the first one I had to refresh the page every few seconds during the last 2 minutes of auction.

After the items were closed, I had to refresh my yahoomail to check the confirmation email that I did win the items. I did not receive it until 30minutes after, and I lost count of the number of times I had to refresh the page. Note: My internet connection is bad, but it seems to be at its worst everytime I have something (very) important to do.

I won both items, and I was the only bidder which meant I got the items at a very low price. But at that time it wasn't final yet, I was not sure if I met the reserve prices for both items so it was still unsure whether we'd get the items or not.

I did not tell R yet until about 10:30 that night when I received an email from Ms Benz that we really did win and we could claim our prizes.

So there, we have a new pre-nup photographer and an auxiliary photographer for the wedding day.

Happiness! Just another "I love being a W@Wie!" story.
